Fat Resistance Diet - Fad or Truth?
Fat Resistance Diet
The famous Fat resistance diet researched and created by Leo Galland, has its fair share of skepticism, with explanations like ‘reducing the inflammation to allow leptins to regulate body weight properly’. and ‘These ‘leptins’ are linked to weight loss with insulin resistance’.
Although shady on the surface, the diet has actually been a critical and commercial success, with one credited medical expert David Pelmutter claiming ” Leo’s Fat Resistance Dieting merges working science to successfully explain and attack the growing issue of obesity”.
One issue I’d have with it is the false confidence it might instil in people, such as the first chapter titled ” The Fat is Not Your Fault”. Leo states that if you are overweight or obese, and have attempted to lose weight without success, there is a good chance your body has built a leptin resistance to change.
The diet program allows a variety of foods to be consumed, limiting mainly trans/saturated fats. It follows a plan of:
- The first step involves a diet 2 week diet plan with inflammation reducing foods working to trigger the leptins to regulate weight more efficiently.
- 3 months then follow of a similar regime, with loss’s of up to 5 pounds a month recorded.
- Once the hormones which regulate weight have been balanced, the dieter should be able to return to a previous diet without gaining as much weight as they previously would have, as their leptins and weight regulation systems are more efficient.
A short excerpt of the book claims ‘Detoxing is BS’. I respect Leo for that statement as I have always shared that thought too.
